I never knew why Thanksgiving was set aside as the day to give thanks for all good things from the past year. For one thing, the holiday is at the end of November. That basically eliminates all the good things that — hopefully — might occur in one’s life in the wonderful month of December; things like Christmas Bonuses, or Christmas presents, or egg nog, that fascinating, once-a-year drink that allows you to get blasted on suspicious-looking milk.

2007 has been a blessed year for me and one for which I want to give thanks. I could make a long, drawn-out list and take up this entire page, but since we live in an ADD Nation, let me name some of my blessings one by one, in no particular order.

I am thankful for my Webmaster, Dave Stevens of Blue Tomato Graphics.

(My idea of what a Webmaster should look like. It also bears a striking resemblance to Dave)

If it weren’t for David, you wouldn’t be reading this right now, for most certainly I could not figure out how to put together a website myself. I have reached that point in life where there are some things I simply don’t give a damn about, and for me, that begins with technology. Yes, I open my mind to all sorts of things; I love to learn. But I have decided — perhaps this is some sort of perverse New Year’s Resolution — that I no longer care to read Owner’s Manuals or technical instructions. I want to read literature or news; I want to enrich the days I have left in this world with things that matter and will live on long after I am gone. This would exclude Owner’s Manuals and technical instructions. Historians centuries from now will not investigate our times and say, “Wow, so THAT’S how you program a cell phone! Cool!”

And so I thank you, David, for being my Master of the Web; for finding meaning in that which befuddles me. As long as I am around, you will always have something to roll your eyes about on the other end of the phone line.
