Nowadays, many literary agents have blogs where they spew out raw numbers on how many queries they receive and how many new clients they sign. I read one recently that stated that in 2009 they received 38,000 queries and took on 6 new clients. That is an acceptance rate of 0.015%. In 2009, Harvard had an acceptance rate of 7%. This means it is 466 times as hard to get a literary agent as it is to get into Harvard.
